Patient Information

Thank you for being a patient of our practice. On this page you will find helpful information to prepare you for your visit. If root canal treatment is needed, this page will also help you prepare for what to expect after your visit.

Scheduling

At Harpeth Endodontics, we know that every patient's needs are different. During the initial exam we are able to assess what type of treatment will be best for you and your tooth. Not all root canal treatments are the same! We also understand that some patients are in pain and need treatment ASAP. For this reason, we offer the following options for scheduling: Consultation Only (usually 30 minutes), Consultation and Treatment (usually 60-90 minutes). Planning For Your Visit

At Harpeth Endodontics we understand that the idea of root canal treatment can be frightening. We want to ease your concerns and provide you with exceptional, painless, and worry-free care. Root canal treatment, when performed by a skilled professional, is a safe and effective way to save natural dentition and eliminate dental disease and infection. Dr. Poppy Blaseio is a Board Certified Endodontist - a distinction earned by only 23% of practicing endodontists nationwide. Please feel free to ask her any questions on root canal safety or details of the procedure you wish to know at your appointment.

Prior to your visit, please take all medications you normally take on a daily basis, and eat a full meal. Please bring with you identification, your dental insurance card, and a the referral slip your dentist likely gave you.  You do not need a designated driver for your appointment as most treatments are performed with local anesthesia and/or nitrous oxide.

What To Expect After Treatment

After treatment, you will continue to be numb for 1-4 hours. If possible avoid chewing until after the numbness has resolved so that you don't accidentally bite your tongue, lip or cheek. Some biting tenderness is normal and expected for a few days. Any temperature sensitivity you may have had prior to treatment should be gone. Enjoying something cold, like ice cream (yes, you deserve it), after treatment is recommended. We also recommend taking ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, etc.) and/or acetaminophen (Tylenol, etc.) for the first 24 hours following treatment to minimize any post operative tenderness you may experience. Warm salt water rinses help immensely with injection site soreness. Finally, be sure to call your general dentist for any follow-up treatment you may need. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
